Why I built Whygrid

I play micro-stakes tournaments - usually with buy-ins up to $10. Year after year I catch myself doing the same thing: it feels like bad luck, but really I keep bleeding chips in the same spots. I review the hand the next day - and I don't always spot the mistake myself.

So I tried a tracker - it honestly shows what I did: VPIP, graphs. But it doesn't explain why I keep making the same call in the same spot, tournament after tournament. I paid for a one-off coaching session - $80, we went through a couple of specific hands, the rest was general advice about my game. It stuck for a couple of weeks - then I hit the same spot again and didn't remember I'd already gotten it wrong there.

So I started reviewing my own hands - not giving myself the answer, but asking why I played it that way, what I was thinking at that moment. After a couple of months I started repeating old mistakes less often. Not because I memorized a list - because each time I actually understood where I messed up.

That's how Whygrid grew out of it. The numbers - VPIP, chip losses, position - are calculated by an algorithm, no guessing. The questions are the same method I used on myself: not "here's your mistake," but "why did you play it that way."

The product is young, I'm improving it as I go. If something isn't working the way it should - reach out, I answer myself.
